Before I start, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone - friends, family and strangers - for all of your support and kind comments. The outpouring of concern and offers of support have been gratefully appreciated.
So, on to the update. My fever seems to have left as of yesterday afternoon. I did feel a bit better yesterday evening and managed to watch a TV show with my daughter and talk with my mother in the U.S. So it was a better evening overall.
I woke up about 4am this morning with my mouth and nose full of that awful Covid taste and smell. I also felt very chesty and felt quite breathless. When I checked my oximeter, my O2 levels were OK, and I didn’t have a fever, so I got a drink and did some deep breathing for a few minutes and went back to sleep.
When I woke up at 8am I felt much better and the Covid taste/smell was mostly gone. My chest was still a bit sore, but totally manageable. Overall it’s been a much better day. I haven’t napped at all, and I’ve been able to do a few things around the house. I still feel a bit weak and washed out, but I haven’t been eating very well and I’ve just gotten over a fever, so that is to be expected.
My only lingering symptom is this dreaded Covid butt. I have had diarreah for 2 days now, and my appetite is really poor. I’ve been drinking loads of fluids and trying to eat a bit of food as often as I can. My blood sugar levels are still on the high side, which is better than low under the circumstances.
I’m really hoping that I continue to improve over the weekend. Technically, I can start back to work on Monday, but I don’t think there is much chance of that happening unless I have a miraculous recovery over the weekend. My official quarantine is supposed to end today (10 days after symptoms started) but as I still have some symptoms, I’m not inflicting myself on anyone at this point. My daughter is supposed to go back to school on Tuesday. I’m not sure how that works if I still have symptoms…..
This really does feel like a military assault on my body. You can almost feel the disease poking and prodding in different areas, testing you for weakness. Then it tries to dig in. Then your body boots it out, but then it finds another weakness and digs in there for a while. I wish to hell it would just go away!
Everyone else in the family is fine. My husband is still feeling a lot of exhaustion – but no other symptoms. My daughter is fine. The cat and guinea pigs are all fine. The cat has been my sick buddy for the entire illness, mainly because he has a captive audience.
Your description of the military attack is perfect! Exactly how I picture this insidious disease invading. Although it's not completely gone yet, I think you've soldiered through it :-0 :-)
