Day 4 - The Rollercoaster

So far, we are all doing relatively well. I have now received a positive Covid test result. No surprise there.
The big surprise was that my husband tested negative. We don’t see how this could be possible as we don't even try to social distance at home - why would we. Maybe he’s one of the lucky ones? Either way, he’s probably going to re-test in a few day’s time as his exhaustion does seem abnormal and he still isn’t feeling right.
Overall, I had a comfortable night. I decided to try sleeping with my head and chest elevated which I do think helped as my chest pain was much reduced by the morning. I also had a 45 minute practice session with my flute last night and I think this is helping to keep my lungs open. I still don’t have a fever and I’m no more tired than usual. I’ve been taking paracetamol every 4 hours during the day and a couple of co-codamol before I go to bed. It really seems to help keep the chest pain under control.
My biggest concern today is my blood sugar levels are all over the place. They were very high last night – I was worried – then they were back down to more normal levels when I woke up. Then they shot really high after breakfast. Then back down to normal levels by mid-afternoon. Then it started to go a bit low. I’ve talked to my GP who has put my mind at ease for the moment. He indicated that things should start to level out in a few days. I’m not on insulin, so it’s very odd for my blood sugar levels to hop around so much. Consequently, I am testing every two hours just to make sure I don’t go so high or so low that I need to go to the hospital.
My other new and exciting symptom is that everything is starting to smell weird. Like a faint whiff of an exotic fruit, meat and hot cheese salad? I can’t really explain it other than to say it smells ‘alien’.
Overall, today’s theme is ‘roller coaster ride’. Sometimes, I feel great, then an hour later I don’t feel great. Sometimes my chest hurts, then my sinuses hurt, then I feel lethargic, then I feel energised. I feel like this thing is travelling around my body trying to find a place to take hold. I hope it doesn’t find one.
My daughter is doing really well. She had a couple of moments this evening when she managed to get a whiff of a smell (dinner and hand gel). She's been busy today participating in virtual school with the other kids who were sent home due to her Covid results. *guilty cringe*
Track and Trace is broken. They’ve been hounding us all day. Phone calls, emails, texts, etc. etc. They had to call me back 4 times because the person taking the info couldn’t get the system to work. They also can’t tie up the fact that my daughter and I are in the same household. My poor husband has been inundated with messages because he’s a ‘close contact’ of both of us. We’ve had nothing to report to Track and Trace other than school and work (my husband works from home). We have been on voluntary ‘lockdown’ since March due to my health issues. Obviously both schools have been working with PHE so I’m not sure what else Track and Trace can do.
Anyway, I'm off to bed to read a book and hang out with the cat - stay safe everyone.
