Day 5 - Soldiering Through and Be Prepared

It’s Day 5, and I’m so tired of this. Today has been ok, but I definitely know that I’m ill. My chest doesn’t hurt very much, but it is still a background theme I can’t get rid of. My sinuses have been very sore today. I’ve been sneezing quite a bit – big explosive sneezes that hurt. And my nose can be quite stuffy at times. My other stats are good. My O2 levels are still above 97%, I have no fever, and my blood sugar levels, while dipping up and down all over the place, have not risen too high or too low. I do feel like my body is waging war. And it is still coming in waves – I feel fine for a while, and then I don’t feel fine for a while. I know the next few days are going to be critical. Fingers crossed it gets no worse than this.

My daughter is regaining her sense of taste and smell and she’s very excited by that. By all accounts, I’d say she is now over this.

My husband is still very tired and washed out – but no other symptoms yet.

The cat has seemed a bit distant. I don’t know if he just feels something’s not right, or if he also doesn’t feel good. He’s eating, so I’m not too worried about him at this point.

The three guinea pigs are completely fine.

I should mention – we did prepare for the possibility of Covid 19, and I’m glad we did. These are the things we did to prepare:

  1. I bought an oximeter last February. If you don’t have one, buy one for sure. Taking your O2 readings is going to be vitally important.

  2. We started taking vitamin D in March. I don’t know if it’s helped but I can’t think that it’s hurt.

  3. We stocked up on paracetamol. Every time I ordered groceries or went to the store, I added a box to the list. I’m finding it’s really helping to reduce the pain in my lungs and face and we now have enough to see us through isolation.

  4. If you are diabetic, stock up on testing strips. I have never tested every two hours – ever – but I am now. And I need to. I’m glad I stocked up.

  5. I believe breathing exercises help – even if you don’t have Covid. I really do think the fact that I play an instrument has helped my lung capacity and my control over breathing and coughing. I know there are videos on YouTube that teach deep breathing techniques – it might be worth watching a few.

That’s it for day 5. I’m really tired of Covid – but I still have potentially 9 more days to go. I hope they go quickly and easily.
